Microsoft will now tell you if you May 2020 update are blocked
If you are currently blocked from upgrading Windows 10 May update due to compatibility hold, you will be notified through Windows update.
Microsoft has listed total nine compatibility holds with Windows 10 May 2020 Update that prevent users from upgrading to Windows 10 version 2004. These holds are encountered by users when they are using specific drivers, apps or Windows 10 features. These are due to conflicts that cause apps not to run properly, BSOD error or crashes or boot up issues.
Here is what the Microsoft’s Windows Update notification says:
“The Windows 10 May 2020 Update is on its way. We’re offering this update to compatible devices, but your device isn’t quite ready for it. Once your device is ready, you’ll see the update available on this page. There’s nothing you need to do at this time”.
While Microsoft states that you need to do nothing at the moment, there is way to update drivers, uninstall apps or turn off Windows preventing the upgrading process. You need to find update drivers and install them and see if the compatibility hold resolved. Actually, Microsoft is working with venders to release an updated driver that resolves such conflicts. Meantime, you can use such update drivers yourself. Here are the list of compatibility holds and possible resolution for this:
- Certain Intel iGPU drivers – Intel
- Realtek Bluetooth radios -Microsoft Catalog
- GameInput Redistributable- Uninstall GameInput Redistributable
- Thunderbolt docks- Intel
- Nvidia display adapters (GPU) older than version 358.00- NVIDIA
- Memory Integrity security feature- Disable Memory Integrity
You should note that these may not be the updated drivers and ultimately you may have to wait for Microsoft for the new drivers.
