Google’s Flutter Toolkit to be used for Ubuntu Desktop installer; confirms official
Last year, in June, Canonical, the company behind Ubuntu Linux decided to use the Flutter UI toolkit support for their Linux desktops.
Subsequently, there was a released of Linux Alpha flutter from Google to let users built apps for mobile, web and desktop in a single codebase.
Now, The Ubuntu desktop team has official announced that they are using Flutter- the portable UI from Google for their upcoming brad new desktop installer.
Martin WImpress, the head of the Ubuntu MATE project and lead the Ubuntu Desktop, says, the team has planned to launch a preliminary version of it to test in Ubuntu 21.10 in October, 2021.
The current ubuntu desktop installer dates back in 2006 and since then it hasn’t been received any significant feature update because of the legacy. So, it is hard to maintain and hence there is the replacement to Ubuntu Desktop Installer.
With the consolidation to the installer with the new server, subiquity which uses Curtin, the teams can easily deliver consistent and robust installation experience across the Ubuntu family distributors. Adding more desirable features will be easy in it as it will be based on single code base.
