Remove MKES ransomware (Open Encrypted Files)

MKES ransomware: Simple Delete Process

Belonging to the family of Matrix ransomware, MKES ransomware is a dangerous file-encrypting virus which upon sneaking into the Windows computers, locks files and then asks victims to pay the attackers an amount of ransom. This precarious malware can encrypt almost all types of data including videos, pictures, music, documents, spreadsheets etc. and make them unable to be opened again. It also renames the compromised files by adding “[email protected]” email address, random character string and appending the “.MKES” extension with each of them. Similar to Povlsomware Ransomware and other crypto-viruses, it also makes changes to registry editors to create persistence.

MKES ransomware

MKES ransomware Displays Ransom Note After Encryption:

Once the encryption process is completed, MKES ransomware leaves a ransom note titled “#MKES_INFO#.rtf” on each affected folder and informs victims that their files have been encrypted. They are also warned not to decode the files manually or use third-party decryption tools, or else, it may lead to permanent data loss. They are asked to contact the attackers via the provided email address to start the recovery process. The subject/title of the mail must be the assigned unique ID and have to be written in English.

MKES ransomware operators also offer to decode three encrypted files for free that should not exceed more than 5 MB in size and contain any valuable information. This is done to prove that the data recovery is possible.

Never Consider Dealing With The Attackers:

At most of the times, recovering the files encrypted by crypto-viruses is not decryptable unless a proper decryption tool is used. However, paying ransom to the crooks is not recommended as they don’t give any assurance that they will provide you the required decryptor even after taking the extortion. Instead, you should focus on MKES ransomware removal from the machine as early as possible. The longer this hazardous threat stays in your computer, it keeps ruining your other essential files and causing more serious issues in the machine.

Recover Data Using Backup:

Security experts strongly advise to keep making regular backups that can be very useful in retrieving the infected or lost files in such perilous situation. So, if an appropriate backup is available, you can restore the data infected by MKES ransomware without any problem. However, in its absence, you can also try an effective data-recovery program which you can download right here (link provided under this article). Paying ransom to attackers is not a clever thing to do under any circumstance as it will only result in the loss of both files as well as money.

Spam Emails Cause Ransomware Attack:

It is common that crypto-viruses are most often distributed via phishing emails that are sent by cyber offenders in a mass-scale operation. These emails are generally presented as “important”, “official”, or “priority” but usually contain malicious files. These spiteful files are in several formats such as JavaScript, Microsoft Office and PDF documents, executables (.exe, .run, etc.), and so forth. As soon as recipients open, run or execute the malevolent file, it triggers the installation of MKES ransomware.

Therefore, you need to be very careful while surfing the web to prevent such lethal attacks. Avoid opening emails coming from unknown addresses as you never know what they contain. Such phishing emails are specially designed in order to trick recipients into downloading their malicious file. And hence, before opening the attachment, you should first scan it using a reputable anti-malware tool. But at the moment, you must remove MKES ransomware from the computer without wasting any time.
