Firefox 77 Rolls Out WebRender To More Windows 10 Users

A famous web browser named Firefox has got a new version released today as Firefox 77 as a stable desktop channel for Windows, Mac OS, and Linux with various bug fixes, new functions and security fixes as well.

It’s worth to mention that the new version Firefox 77 has an updated about:certificate page and also includes the increased roll out of the WebRender feature.

In addition to aforementioned inclusions, the new version also have mostly bugs fixed and performance improvements.

In order to get this new version, the users of Windows, Mac, or Linux can do the upgrade by navigating to Options > Help > About Firefox and the browser will automatically check for new available updates. Just click the Install button to get the updated version on your machine.

Following the release of Firefox 77, the other Firefox development branches have also moved up to a version to bring Firefox Beta to version 78 and the nightly builds to version 79.

WebRender continues to roll out

WebRender is technically a feature or a 2-dimensional rendering system for browser that uses graphics card rather than CPU to render a web page. This feature allows smoother animations, faster rendering of websites, special visual effects and complex gradients.

Also, the Mozilla is rolling out WebRender to Firefox 67 to limited user groups.

However, with the release of Firefox 77, the WebRender feature is available by default for all Windows 10 systems running Nvidia GPU which have medium 3440×1440 resolution.

The new and updated About:certificate page

With the release of Firefox 71 earlier, the Mozilla had released a new certificate viewer page which lets users to see site’s certificate and the authorities that trust it.

This page use to open in its new tab and requires a certificate hash to be supplied as an argument to see its details as depicted in the image below.

In the lately released version Firefox 77, Mozilla has updated the About:certificate page that now allows users to use this function without mentioning any particular certificate.

While opening about:certificate page will now display the known certificate servers and authorities trusted by Mozilla certificate store.

Bugs fixes

  • The list of applications in Firefox options is now available to screen reader users
  • Previously reported issue regarding live region didn’t report updated texts with JAWS screen reader is now resolved
  • Users of accessibility tools are now able to get missing labels in Date/Time inputs

Other improvements

  • The browser.urlbar.oneoffsearchers preferences has been eradicated in order to hide one-off search buttons uncheck search engines on the about:preferences@search page
  • For UK users, Pocket reocmmendations will now appear

Modifications for developers

  • Modifications in Javascript debugging makes loading through sources faster in compare to prior versions
  • Added support for Javascript API String.prototype.replaceAll() that allows users to return a new string with all matches to provided pattern while keeping the original string as well.
