Adobe now displays alerts in Windows 10 to remove Flash Player
Tomorrow, the life of Flash Player is going to be end and the Windows users started to receive alerts from Adobe, suggesting uninstalling Flash Player. When the application is installed, it creates a scheduled task named ‘Adobe Flash Player PPAPI Notifier’ that executes the following command:
“C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash\FlashUtil32_32_0_0_465_pepper.exe” -update pepperplugin
As soon as the command is executed, it exhibits an alert message thanking users for using Adobe Flash Player and also recommends to uninstall the app since its life is about to end.
Text Presented in the alert message shown below:
This alert thanks users for using Adobe Flash Player and recommends that users uninstall the program as it will no longer work starting January 12th, 2021.
Thank you for using Adobe Flash Player
Adobe will stop supporting Flash Player after December 31, 2020.
To help secure your system, Adobe will block Flash content from running in Flash Player beginning January 12, 2021. Please see the Adobe Flash Player EOL General Information Page for more details.
Adobe strongly recommends immediately removing Flash Player from your system by clicking the ‘Uninstall’ button below.
If you are not using Flash content on your device, you should terminate uninstall Flash Player now and avoid receiving those annoying pop-ups. This app has always been security threat when Adobe announced to end its life in 2017, most websites and internal applications have separated from it. Adobe brought in a new Flash Player configuration option named ‘EOLUninstallDisable’ through which, users can restrain the uninstall recommendation alerts.
EOLUninstallDisable = [ 0, 1] (0 = false, 1 = true)
Thing that allows the uninstall recommendation alerts to be displayed is the default of the EOLUninstallDisable which is 0. If it would be 1, the unwanted pop-ups by Adobe to uninstall Flash Player would have not shown. While the application’s life is about to end tomorrow and the Flash content will not work from January 12th, the setting can be configured. And if you are not using the Flash content on your system, you should not waste any time to remove Flash Player immediately.
