Travelex pays 2.3 millions for network operation after ransomware attacks
As per the report from Wall Street Journal, Travelex, a foreign exchange company headquartered in London, has paid total 2.3 million ransoms to get their network backup and proper running.
“Travelex, known for its ubiquitous foreign-exchange kiosks in airports and tourist sites around the world, was shut down by a computer virus that infiltrated its networks early this year. It responded by paying the hackers the equivalent of $2.3 million, according to a person familiar with the transaction,” the report states.
A piece of information aligned to the report that we got when the Travelex resumed the operations on Jan 17th 2020 and rumours that Travelex paid the ransom start in circulation.
Sodinokibi confirmed that they received the payment from the company however did not reveal the exact amount or provide any proof.
Travelex, on the other hand, had showed their no mood to discuss the case while it under investigation. “There is an ongoing investigation. We have taken advice from a number of experts and we are not going to discuss this” –the company told.
This attack highlights the importance of the transparency and prompts the notifications about the breaches.
While paying the ransom helped in Network restoration, those whose data got compromised are still stuck in limbo.
