Microsoft to release replace to Edge Legacy desktop app with April’s Windows 10 update
From the April’s Windows 10 update, a new Edge will replace the Edge Legacy App from Microsoft. People will not get offered the security update for Edge Legacy desktop app from 9th of March, 2021. The company announced the end support for this app on August last year.
In place of this, a new Edge will be offered that will appear as a part of Windows 10 cumulative monthly security scheduled to be rolled out on 13th April 2021. With the update install, the outdated Edge legacy desktop will automatically be swapped.
The report from Neowin states, this update will completely remove the legacy version of the Edge from OS. So, if the new Edge is already installed, it just removes the older version and won’t re-install it.
Microsoft said, “The new Microsoft Edge offers built-in security and our best interoperability with the Microsoft security ecosystem, all while being more secure than Chrome for businesses on Windows 10.”
The Microsoft is likely pushing the Chromium-based Edge with this announcement. It was introduced in January last year bought up a revamped interface, new set of feature and support for chromium extension to the Edge web browser.
The latest update to it introduced a sleeping tab using which users can users can put tabs into inactive state so that other apps that require those limited resources use the free-up memory and less amount of CPU be consumed.
