Microsoft Seems Enhancing Gaming Support In Chromium For Win 10
While speaking about advantage of using windows 10 OS, is its compatibility with older applications and even hardware. And all this is possible as Windows has a large number of legacy stuff to support most of the applications and games which are actually created in past decade.
Recently, the Microsoft has been found experimenting with modular and modern Windows 10 to ditch decades of legacy cruft which simply can’t be removed from the OS. While the company has given up on long-rumoured Andromeda mobile OS, however the related Windows Core OS project is still underway.
Microsoft even seems to be working on a new update for Chromium which will enable support for varieties of gamepad on Windows 10, Windows Core OS and Widnows 10X.
According to a report found on Chromium Gerrit, the company is working on a new function which will allow the Chromium to support many modern gamepad devices on Windows 10 operating system.
This new change will allow “Windows.Gaming.Input (WGI)” by default on Chromium, that should allow WGI to offer support for gamepad-specific Plug and Play APIs, even the WCOS devices as well.
In a support documentation, the company has noted that WGI offers access to gamne controller input for Windows apps and games.
As per the experts, it’s believed that WGI support may also allow Chromium to support rumble triggers on Xbox One gamepad, and paddles on the Elite controllers when you use Chromium based browsers to play online games.
Windows Core OS Vs Windows 10X
Microsoft found that WGI Gamepad javascript API will enable support for gamepad-specific Plug and Play APIs in Chromium for Windows Core operating system. So, the users can expect all these gaming enhancement to work on Windows desktop as well as Windows 10X.
Chromium actually gains support for gamepad-specific Plug and Play APIs along with WCOS devices, while the low level APIs like Raw Input doesn’t support WCOS devices, with the WGI gamepad javascript API. The company has noted that the feature can actually work on both the Windows desktop as well as Windows 10X.
Also, the Microsoft has been working on legacy-free Windows Core OS from 2017, and it’s believed that the operating system has been in the works for longer. Windows Core OS is a stripped back version of Windows which is primarily designed for new form factors like Surface Neo, Chromebook, and is also believed as the future of Windows.
While speaking about Windows Core OS, it simply uses a Composable Shell, which is a modular version of current Windows Shell, that easily create new versions of Windows 10 such as Windows 10X and may share features across various form factors.
In addition, it’s also worth to mention that Windows Core OS based Windows 10X has deep ties with web experiences and it puts UWP and PWA Windows apps front and center.
Since the company has now abandoned the EdgeHTML, it’s planning to optimize all rough areas of Chromium which also power the web based interface for applications and games which are expected to be released with upcoming versions of Windows 10.
The Windows Core OS-based Windows 10X is expected to be launched next year and the company is even planning to release its beta version for public testing on existing hardware.
