It provides the details like price of the decryption tool, cryptocurrency wallet address belongs to the crooks where the transaction is to be made, payment deadline and etc. The crooks demand 200 BTC of Amazon gift cards. For the contact purpose, [email protected] address belongs to them is mentioned in it.

—————————————-

In some cases, victims can decrypt their files for free. It is possible only when ransomware have some flaws or bugs in them-security researchers crack the code used by taking the advantage of this flaw and develop a free decryption tool. However, no such tools could break Wannapay Ransomware’s encryption. This does not mean that now you contact/ pay the crooks. These people are not reliable – they will never provide you the decryption tool. If you pay, you will get scammed. You will suffer financial loss and have all the files remain encrypted.

The best way to deal with this case is to remove Wannapay Ransomware and recover the files using existing backups. If there no such backups, use Shadow Copies or third party data recovery tools- check our data recovery section below the post for more detailed guide. The virus removal is the first and crucial step in this case – this will prevent further files encryption, avoid system damages and make you free to perform the files recovery process without the interference of the crooks behind it. Users infect their systems through Trojans, spam emails, files downloaded through unreliable channels, fake software updaters and third party software activation tools. Trojans are malicious computer infection designed to download/ install additional malware. Spam emails are used to deliver malware via attachments or website links. Recipients install malicious software after opening malicious attachments or files downloaded through the included links.

Files available for download on p2p networks, free file hosting sites and third party downloaders, installers often offer dubious and/or bundled content. It is common that crooks disguise malicious files as regular, legitimate and wait until users download and open them. Fake software updates cause system infection by exploiting bugs/ flaws of outdated software or by directly downloading malware instead of providing updates. Unofficial software activation tools cause system infection by supposedly bypassing activation keys for paid software.

How to prevent ransomware infection?

Installed software should never be updated or activated using third party, unofficial tools. It is common that these tools are bundled with malware. Installed software should always be updated using the tools/ functions from official developers only. It is important to mention that it is not legal to bypass software using unofficial activation tools or use pirated software. Further, files attached on any irrelevant emails should never be clicked.
