How to remove Boooom ransomware and recover files

Complete guide to delete Boooom ransomware and decrypt files

Boooom ransomware is a ransomware-type infection that encrypts stored files and then demands ransom payment for the decryption. During the encryption process, the files are renamed with this pattern: original filename, unique ID number belongs to the victims, crooks’ email address and .boooom extension.

For example, a file 1.jpg would appear as “1.jpg.[ID-C279F237].[[email protected]].boooom”- after the encryption. Upon finishing the files encryption process and successfully appending the  filenames of the affected file, the ransomware drops decrypt_info.txt file as its ransom note to the desktop.

The ransom-demanding message informs the victims about the files encryption and implies that the decryption is possible only when they pay certain amount of fee in Bitcoin cryptourrency. The note urges victims to contact the crooks via email or Telegram to get further details.

Prior to the payment, they are offered free decryption of up to two encrypted files. it is just an attempt by the crooks to trick people into believing that they can rely on them and proceed with the payment. However, we strongly recommend not paying the ransom.

In often cases, victims do not receive the decryption tool for the files recovery even after they fulfill the demands. In other words, their files remain encrypted and they suffer huge financial loss. To prevent Boooom ransomware from further files encryption, its removal is necessary.

However, even the virus removal won’t decrypt the files already affected. To get them back, rely on existing backups you have. If not, once check if shadow copies – the automatically designed backups from Windows OS, if available.

If the above options are not enough to recover all affected files, you have to rely on third party data recovery tool. At present, the moment we are writing this article, official decryption tool for Boooom ransomware virus has yet to be designed.

How did ransomware infect my system?

Ransomware and other malicious malware are often distributed via untrustworthy downloading channels such as unofficial and freeware sites, p2p networks, and other third party downloaders. Illegal activation tools and fraudulent updaters are the common examples.

Cracking tools infect systems by supposedly bypassing activation keys of paid software. Fake software updaters cause system infection by exploiting bugs/ flaws of outdated software and/or by direct downloading malware instead of providing updates.

Scam campaign can also be used to spread malware. The deceptive emails distributed through these campaigns can have infectious files or links for such files in them. The infection is caused when users execute, run or otherwise open such attachments/ links.
