FBI alerts; zoom users might be zoombombed while meeting

FBI alerted users who are using the zoom platform during the corona pandemic for the meeting that there is a risk of being hijacked.

Carrie Kerskie, a security expert, said; “You have to use it properly or you could end up in trouble,”

This Video Communications service from America is being used by businesses, schools and even for birthdays parties in now days.

According to FBI’s report, the potential vulnerability in the app is that your meeting can be “zoombombed”. In other word, you may be joined by someone who wasn’t invited or an inappropriate video added.

Many people who encountered the issues shared the screenshots of their meetings in real-time on social media that lets anyone see their zoom meeting number and opens the meeting up to uninvited people.

Kerskie recommended a few tips for the safely using the app till the issues fixed: These are:

  • Set up your meeting as private
  • Use passwords for participants
  • Make sure the host is notified when people join
  • Don’t show your meeting ID number on social media
