Documents related to COVID-19 submissions accessed in EMA’s cyberattack
European Medicines Agency or EMA, agency based on COVID-19 vaccine approval suffered a cyber-attack and now they are in close cooperation with law enforcement and other relevant entities.
EMA is European based agency who monitors, evaluates supervises new medicines introduced in European.
They confirmed about the attack by releasing a statement in their website, saying “EMA has been the subject of a cyberattack. The Agency has swiftly launched a full investigation, in close cooperation with law enforcement and other relevant entities.”
They disclose about the attack; “EMA cannot provide additional details whilst the investigation is ongoing. Further information will be made available in due course.”
There are so many speculations what type of attack was conducted and what could be the aim of the people behind the attack, the agency denied to provide any further information about the attack till the investigation is going on.
As per the joint statement from Pfizer and BioTech, their documents related to the COVID-19 submissions were accessed by the attackers in EMA’s attack.
“Today, we were informed by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) that the agency has been subject to a cyberattack and that some documents relating to the regulatory submission for Pfizer and BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine candidate, BNT162b2, which has been stored on an EMA server, had been unlawfully accessed.”
A recent report by IBM-X Force warns people that threat actors are targeting COVID-19 vaccine cold-storage supply chain using phishing campaigns. With these campaigns, crooks attempt to gather credentials required to compromise a targeted organization’s network.
