AdGuad reported 295 plus malicious Chrome extensions

An ad-blocking solutions providing company, AdGuard, has recently reported a big number of Google Chrome extensions that have been detected to hijack the Google and Bing search engines and to inject ads into them.

The company was initially investigating some fake ad-blockers that were themselves for advertising purposes instead of doing their primitive job to keep ads away from users’ browsers. During their investigation, AdGuard happened upon over large number of malicious chrome extensions – that were primarily used to put ads inside users’ search results on Google and Bing.

According to the submit report by AdGuard, all the apps that make up the detected browser hijacking cluster use the fly-analytics.com from where the malicious ad-injecting code loaded to them. After the report and a tweet from the company’s addressing the issue, some of the apps started to get removed from the web store.

In their blog post, the company indicates about some other bad practices, commonly encountered on Google Web Store. For example, the appearance and re-appearance of low quality imitator apps that seem ordinary. However, these imitators have some malicious codes injected to them that lead to similar ad-generating and browser hijacking troubles.

If you have doubt one or more such malicious extensions, you will have to remove it by your own. On detecting any extension as problematic, it would get disabled on your browser and the Chrome will flag it as a malware in its extensions management menu. However, it does not get uninstalled automatically.
