How to remove RDP ransomware and recover encrypted files

Easy stepwise guide to delete RDP ransomware and decrypt data

RDP ransomware is a ransomware-type infection and a part of Paradise ransomware group. The malware is discovered by S!Ri. It encrypts stored files using some strong cipher algorithm, making them inaccessible for users unless they are decrypted using certain specific tools. These can only be purchased from the people behind the ransomware. Furthermore, te malware creates “%%_WHERE_MY_FILES_=#.html” file – a ransom demanding note and renames all encrypted files. The files are appended with this pattern; victims’ ID, email address belongs to crooks and .rdp extension. For example, a file 1.jpg would become “1.jpg[id-sw4uXZP5].[[email protected]].Rdp”- upon encryption.

The “%%_WHERE_MY_FILES_=#.html” file instructs users to contact the crooks behind RDP ransomware via [email protected] email address or @helprestore account on Telegram. When contacted, they are provided the information like cost of the decryption tool and/or key and payment info. Usually, only the crooks are responsible for the ransomware have the tools that can decrypt encoded files. However, it is highly not recommended to contact/ pay to them under any circumstances. It is likely that they never provide the decryption tool even if all their demands are met.

The best way to deal with this case is to remove RDP ransomware and recover the files using existing backup. The complete malware removal instruction is provided below the post. Follow the instruction so that you can easily perform the removal process. The removal is necessary to prevent further files encryption and to avoid interference from the threat during the files recovery. Next to performing the ransomware removal, you can think of files recovery.

The data decryption, as stated, is not possible without using a certain combination of letters through which the files were encoded. Obviously, the crooks are the only people who have exact idea about the keys used. However, contacting/ paying these people are risky – there is a chance of getting scammed. The sole solution in such a case is to recover the files using existing backup. The problem is that not all users have such backup option available. In this case, Shadow Copies and data recovery tools are other alternatives they should look for – for complete instruction on how to use them, refer our data recovery instruction provided below the post.

How did RDP ransomware infiltrate my system?

Usually, crooks proliferate in malware through spam campaigns, Trojans, untrustworthy software downloading channels, unofficial software activation tools and various fake updates. They use spam campaigns to send emails with malicious files or links in them. Typically, these files are Microsoft Office or PDF documents, archives, JavaScript or executables. Their main motive is to trick recipients into opening them. If opened, the malware download/ installation process is jumpstarted. Trojans are malicious programs that cause chain infection on already infected system.

Computers can get infected through various untrustworthy file or software download sources like free file hosting sites, freeware download websites, or software download channels. Software cracking tools are the programs that are used by users to want to activate paid software for free. Unfortunately, such tools are often used to proliferate to malware. Fake software updaters tools infect systems when they install malicious programs rather than software update or exploit bugs/ flaws of outdated software that is already installed on system.

How to prevent ransomware infection?

Do not open any attachments or website links presented in any irrelevant emails or sent from unknown, suspicious addresses. Installed software should not have to be updated using unofficial tools. The proper way to update is to use tools/ functions from official software developers. Software, files should always be downloaded from official websites and direct links. Third party downloaders, unofficial, suspicious websites and other similar channels should never be trusted. It is common that these tools proliferate in malware. Software should be activated properly. Various cracking tools and other unofficial tools are used to spread malware. Furthermore, it is illegal to activate licensed software using them.
