How to remove Nomad ransomware and recover files

Complete tips to delete Nomad ransomware and decrypt data

Nomad ransomware is a ransomware from Dharma ransomware group. It is designed to encrypt stored files and then demand ransom payment for the decryption. Affected files are renamed with this pattern: initial filename, unique ID number assigned to the victim, crooks’ email address and a .nomad extension.

For example, a file 1.jpg would appear something similar to “1.jpg.id-C279F237.[[email protected]].nomad” – after encryption. Once the files encryption process is complete, Nomad creates/ displays its ransom note within pop-up window and info.txt text file.

The ransom-demanding messages inform the victims that their files have been encrypted. To restore them, the notes instruct them to establish contact with the crooks via the provided email address. The users would likely to get the detail regarding how to purchase the decryption tool after that.

It is expressly advised against communicating and/or paying to the crooks. Despite paying, victims often do not receive the decryption tool. Hence, the users suffer huge financial loss and their files remain encrypted.

Removing Nomad ransomware also does not decrypt the files already encrypted, although this process is necessary to prevent further files encryption and avoid the malware to spread on the network. To remove Nomad virus, follow our guide provided below or employ some reputable antivirus tool for that.

Once after the ransomware removal is done, use the backups you have to restore them to the previously accessible condition. Don’t lose hope, in case you do not have any existing backups available. There are at least two data recovery option still you have.

Shadow Copies from Windows OS are the one. The Nomad ransomware might not be capable of running commands to delete the automatically created backups and thus they ultimately become the files recovery option for you.

Another option is to use data recovery tool. While we do not guarantee that they will provide the files for accessible condition, you should have a try. Below the post, together with the virus removal, we included the guide how to recover files using the above stated options.

How did Nomad ransomware enter my system?

Ransomware and other malicious malware are commonly distributed via dubious downloading channels such as unofficial and freeware sites, p2p networks and other third-party downloaders. Illegal activation tools and fake software updaters are the perfect examples.

Illegal activation tools or cracking tools can infect systems instead of activating licensed products. Fake software updaters cause system infection by exploiting bugs/ flaws of outdated software and/or by installing malicious malware rather than the updates.

Malware is also proliferated through spam campaigns. The spam emails can contain virulent files as attachments or linked inside them. These files can be executables, archives, PDF and Microsoft Office documents, JavaScript and etc, if clicked- the infection chain is triggered.
