How to remove MCNB ransomware and retrieve data

Easy tips to delete MCNB ransomware and decrypt data

MCNB ransomware is a rogue piece of software categorized as ransomware. The malware is designed to encrypt stored files and then demand ransom payment for the decryption. In other word, it renders all stored files inaccessible and asks victims to pay- to restore access to the files.

As MCNB encrypts, it appends the files with .MCNB extension. For example, a file initially named 1.jpg would become “1.jpg.MCNB”, “2.jpg” become “2.jpg.MCNB”, and so forth. After this, ransom notes are created/ displayed in a pop-up (“@[email protected]”) and “@[email protected]” text file.

Typically, ransom notes inform users about files encryption, contain payment instructions and the crooks’ contact information. However, MCNB ransomware’s ransom notes make odd demands. As per the approximate translation from Chinese, the message states that the victims’ files are either encrypted or deleted.

To initiate the files recovery, the recipients are asked to meet the crooks’ demands. Firstly the victims are asked to click on Decrypt button on the pop-up window. This will redirect them to official Minecraft video game website, where they are urged to purchase the Minecraft Java version and send this screenshot.

In many cases of ransomware infections, without the crooks’ involvement – the decryption is impossible. It might be if the malware is at its initial stage or has certain bugs/ flaws in it. Whatever, the case, it is expressly advised against meeting the ransom demand.

Despite following the instructions- victims often do not receive the decryption tool/ software. Thus, they suffer financial loss and their files remain encrypted. To prevent MCNB ransomware from further files encryption, its removal is necessary.

However, this process will not restore the affected files. Existing backups are the best option in such a case for the files recovery. However, if you do not have any such backups, still you have at least two data recovery options available.

You can use Shadow Copies from Windows OS or some third party data recovery tools. Check below the post in the data recovery section for more detailed guide on files recovery. There you will also find complete instruction to delete MCNB ransomware from system.

How did MCNB ransomware enter my system?

Ransomware and other malicious malware are often distributed via untrustworthy downloading channels such as unofficial and free file hosting sites, p2p networks and other third-party downloaders. Fraudulent updaters and illegal activation tools are prime examples.

Fake software updaters infect systems by exploiting bugs/ flaws of outdated software and/or by installing malware instead of providing updates. Rather than activating licensed products, cracking tools can cause infections.

Malware can also be distributed through spam emails. These letters have virulent files attached or links for such files in them. The infectious files, when executed, run or otherwise opened- the infection process is triggered.

How to prevent ransomware infection?

It is advised to always download from official and verified sources. Additionally, all programs should have to be activated and updated using tools/functions from official software developers. Suspicious and irrelevant emails should never be opened, especially any attachments and website links in them.

To ensure the device’s integrity and personal safety, it is crucial to have a reputable antivirus tool installed and kept updated. Also, use this software for regular system scan and to remove any detected threats/ issues.
