It states the users require submitting $200 in Bitcoin in order to get a decryption key/ password that can decrypt the files. For further queries, they are urged to contact the crooks behind the ransomware via [email protected] email address.

In usual cases with ransomware infection, the affected files are marked with the name of the virus as extension. However, the M.0.A.B. Ransomware virus does not rename the encrypted files. It leaves the original filenames. But, they are encrypted and can’t be accessible without using a unique key/ code through which the encryption is being made. Obviously, the crooks are the only people who have the idea about that unique combination of characters through which the files can be decoded.

Many people think following the ransom payment instruction is the last option they have. However, this is not so. Ransomware and other malicious malware are often distributed via Trojans, phishing emails, and unreliable sources to download software, files, software updaters and unofficial software activation tools. Trojans are malicious programs designed to install payload of other malicious malware. Phishing emails send malware through malicious files or links. Examples of files that the crooks attach to their emails are Microsoft Office, PDF Documents, JavaScript files, archive files like ZIP, RAR and executable files. The recipients install malicious software when they execute malicious files received via the emails.

Furthermore, the malware can be installed through untrustworthy downloading sources such as p2p networks, free file hosting sites, third party downloaders/installers and etc. They spread malware by presenting it as legit software. Third party software updaters infect systems by exploit bugs/ flaws of outdated software or by directly downloading malware instead of providing updates. Unofficial activation tools cause system infections by supposedly bypassing activation keys for paid software.
