How to remove Lambda ransomware and recover files

Easy tips to delete Lambda ransomware and decrypt data

Lambda ransomware is a file-locking virus that restricts access to the data stored, including documents, images, videos by encrypting the files with “.[[email protected]][ID].lambda” extension and then attempts to extort money from victims by asking them to pay ransom in bitcoin in the exchange of access to the data.

The ransomware is capable of scanning the systems for images, videos, and important productivity documents and files such as .docx, .xls, .pdf and so on. When these files are detected, the ransomware encrypts them and change their extension to “.[[email protected]][ID].lambda”.

Once the Lambda ransomware has encrypted the stored files, it will display a file containing ransom note and instructions on how to contact the crooks behind the infection and pay them ransom to alleged get the decryption tool. This is the ransom message shows by the Lambda ransomware to the victims:

All Your Files Has Been Encrypted

You Have to Pay to Get Your Files Back

1-Go to C:\ProgramData\ or in Your other Drives and send us prvkey.txt.key file

2-You can send some file little than 1mb for Decryption test to trust us But the test File should not contain valuable data

3-Payment should be with Bitcoin

4-Changing Windows without saving prvkey.txt.key file will cause permanete Data loss

In ransomware infection cases, without the involvement of the crooks behind them, the files decryption is not possible. It might be when the ransomware is at its initial stage or has certain bugs/ flaws in them. Regardless, it is strongly advised against meeting the ransom demands.

These people are not trustworthy. They will never provide you the decryption tool even if all their demands are met. In such a case, therefore, you should think of possible alternatives for the files recovery. Existing backups are the one.

However, not all users have such backups available. In such a case, once check if Shadow Copies exist – these are automatically designed backups from Windows OS, sometimes left untouched during the entire process of system attack and files encryption.

Third party data recovery tools are other data recovery alternatives you have. Below the post, the data recovery section guides you how you can recover the files using stated options. Before that, remove Lambda ransomware from the system to avoid its interference – the removal instruction is also included along with the data recovery guide.

How did Lambda ransomware enter my system?

Ransomware and other malicious malware are often distributed through Trojans, emails, unreliable sources for downloading files, programs, unofficial updates and software cracking tools. Trojans are malicious malware especially designed to cause chain infections.

Emails used to spread malware contain infectious files or links for such files in them. Users cause system infection when they execute such files on their systems. Files downloaded from unreliable sources infect systems in the same way.

Fake software updaters infect systems by installing malware instead of fixes, updates or exploiting bugs, flaws of outdated software. Software cracking tools are often bundled with malware. Users infect systems through those tools when they try to activate licensed software with them.

How to prevent ransomware infection?

Installed software should have to be updated and activated using tools/ functions from legit developers. It is not legal to use cracking tools to activate licensed/ legit programs. Also, it is very popular to use those tools to distribute malware.

Website links on any irrelevant emails sent from unknown should never be opened as well. Files and programs should have to be downloaded from official websites and direct links only. A computer should have to be scanned for threats on regular basis by using some reputable antivirus suite.
