How to remove L47 ransomware and recover files
Easy tips to delete L47 ransomware and decrypt data
L47 ransomware is a ransomware-type infection and a part of MedusaLocker family. It encrypts stored files and then demands ransom payment for the decryption. During the encryption process, it appends .L47 extension to their filenames. For example, a file 1.jpg would appear something similar to “1.jpg.L47”, “2.jpg” to “2.jpg.L47” and so on.
After this, a ransom note within HOW_TO_RECOVERT_DATA.html is dropped. It states that the files are encoded with RSA and AES cryptographic algorithms. The encrypted files should not be modified and renamed as this may result in permanent data loss.
As per the message, the only to recover the files is to decrypt them using decryption tool from crooks behind the infection. The victims are provided Tor website and [email protected], [email protected] email addresses for the contact.
The ransom note does not disclose the price of the decryption tool. It only says that it will be increased after 72 hours from the ransomware attacks. Before the payment, the victims are asked to send 2-3 encrypted files to receive them back decrypted for free –this serves as a proof that the decryption tool is really working.
Also, the ransom note informs the victims that all stored files on systems are transferred to a remote server controlled by the attackers. That server will be deactivated after the payment. However, if the victims deny submitting the ransom, then their files will be publicized online and/or sold to third parties.
As a rule, crooks behind ransomware infections are the only who can decrypt the files as they have the right decryption tool. However, it does not mean that you should contact/ pay these evil minded people. Do not do that even if the crooks provide some encrypted files for free.
Quite often, victims do not receive the decryption tool even after the payment is done. Usually, the data and monetary loss can be avoided when victims have existing backups that can be used for restoring files. Sometimes, victims can decrypt files using third party data recovery tools downloaded from the internet.
Even if the two above mentioned options do not work in your case, you still left with a data recovery option by using Shadow Copies. These are automatically created backups. Sometimes, in ransomware infection cases, these automatically created backups from Windows left untouched and thus they ultimately become files recovery option for the victims.
Refer data recovery section below the post for more detailed data recovery instructions. There you will also find complete guide to remove L47 ransomware from the system. Perform the virus removal before attempting to recover the files so that the files recovery process would have indulgence with the ransomware infection.
How did L47 ransomware enter my system?
Usually, crooks distribute ransomware through emails, Trojans, fake software updaters, software cracking tools and unreliable sources for downloading files, programs. In the first case, the malware are distributed by sending emails that contain malicious attachments or website links. Users infect systems when they execute those malicious files.
Fake software updaters can be designed to infect systems by installing malicious software instead of updates, fixes for the installed software or exploiting bugs, flaws of outdated software. Trojans are malicious apps that cause chain infection on the system compromised.
Questionable sources for downloading including p2p networks, free file hosting sites and third party downloaders/installers often spread malware by presenting it as legit software. Cracking tools cause system infection by supposedly bypassing activation keys of paid software.
