How to remove IHA Ransomware and recover files

Easy tips to delete IHA Ransomware and decrypt files

IHA Ransomware is a new variant of NoCry ransomware group. The malware operates by encrypting stored files and then demanding ransom payment for the decryption. During the encryption process, it appends .IHA extension to each of the encrypted files.

For example, a file like 1.jpg would appear as “1.jpg.IHA”, “2.jpg” as “2.jpg.IHA”, etc. Once this process is complete, the ransomware changes the desktop wallpaper and displays a pop-up window with ransom demanding message on them.

The ransom messages state that to decrypt those files – the victims have to pay a ransom. They are asked to transfer 100 USD in Bitcoin to the crooks behind the infection and mentions wallet address for the purpose. The listed wallet address is however fake.

Unfortunately, in most of the cases with ransomware infection cases- the decryption is not possible without the involvement of the crooks behind the infection. Furthermore, despite paying- the victims often do not receive the decryption tool.

Removing IHA Ransomware is necessary to prevent further files encryption. However, the removal process will not recover the files already compromised. In such a case, existing backups are crucial to get back those data in the accessible form.

If you do not have any such backup files available, you will have a lot of problem to recover the files. There are at least two data recovery options still available. Shadow copies are one of them. However, we can’t assure you that this automatically created backup would not get affected.

In the data recovery section below the post, you will find complete guide to recover the files. if this option is found to be deleted by the IHA Ransomware, the only option you left with at the moment is to use third party data recovery tool – the official decryptor is yet to be released.

How did IHA Ransomware enter my system?

Ransomware and other malicious malware are often distributed through phishing and social engineering techniques. Malicious software distributed through untrustworthy downloading channels such as unofficial and freeware sites, p2p networks and etc.

Illegal activation tools and fake software updaters can cause system infection as well. Cracking tools infect systems instead of activating licensed products. Fake software updaters cause system infections by exploiting bugs/ flaws of outdated software and/or by installing malicious programs.

Spam campaigns are also employed in malware proliferation. Scam emails have infectious files or links for such files in them. These files could be archives, JavaScript, PDF and Microsoft Office documents and etc, if opened- the infection process is jumpstarted.
