How to remove Delta (AsupQue) ransomware and restore data

Stepwise guide to delete Delta (AsupQue) ransomware and decrypt files

Delta (AsupQue) ransomware is a ransomware-type infection. Systems infected with this malware have all stored files inaccessible. Victims receive ransom demanding message for the decryption. As the virus encrypts, the affected files are appended with “.[Delta][victim’s_ID]” extension, where ID refers to the code assigned to the victim. For example, a file 1.jpg would become something like “1.jpg.[Delta]uVkSQApq” – following encryption. After the files encryption process is complete, the ransomware displays a pop-up window (info.hta), containing the ransom demanding message.

The text presented in info.hta file informs the victims that all their files have been encrypted. To unlock them, the users are instructed to establish communication to the crooks behind it via the provided email address. Furthermore, they are asked to send up to five encrypted files of total file size should not exceed 5MB – the test files will be decrypted which is served as a proof that the recovery is possible. The note concludes with warning to the users that renaming, modifying and/or attempting to manually decrypt the files will result into permanent data loss.

In major cases with system infections with ransomware viruses, decryption is not possible without involvement of the crooks behind it. It might be when the malware is still in development stage or has certain bug/ flaw in them. Whatever be the case, it is strongly not recommended to contact/ pay to the crooks. Despite paying, victims often do not receive the necessary tools. Hence, they experience financial loss and their files remain encrypted. Removing Delta (AsupQue) ransomware from system will prevent further files encryption. However, it will not restore already encrypted files.

Existing backups will be helpful in this. The problem is that not all users have such backup option available. In this case, once check if Shadow Copies available – the complete guide how to check it and use it for files recovery is provided below the post in the data recovery section. The Delta (AsupQue) ransomware may delete this automatically created backup from OS. Then, you have to rely on third party data recovery tool. Such tools can be relied as nowadays these are designed with special functionality added.

How did Delta (AsupQue) ransomware enter my systems?

Ransomware and other malicious malware are often distributed through spam campaigns – large scale operations during which thousands of spam emails are designed and delivered. These letters have infectious files or links for such files in them. The virulent files can be in variety of formats including archives (RAR, ZIP, etc.), executables (.exe, .run, etc.), Microsoft Office and PDF documents, JavaScript, and so forth. When these files are opened- the infection chain is triggered.

Malicious programs are often disguised as or bundled with regular software and then distributed through dubious download channels. Examples of untrustworthy channels are free file hosting sites, p2p networks and other third party downloaders/ installers. Illegal activation tools and fake updaters are prime example of malware-spreading content. Cracking tools infect systems by supposedly bypassing activation keys for paid software. Illegitimate updaters cause system infections by exploiting bugs/ flaws of outdated software or by installing malware rather than the promised updates.

Text presented in Delta (AsupQue) ransomware‘s pop-up window (“Info.hta”):
