How to remove BDEV ransomware and recover encrypted files

Easy tips to delete BDEV ransomware and restore data

BDEV ransomware is a ransomware that infection that encrypts stored files and demands ransom payment for the decryption. During the encryption process, it appends the filenames of each of the encrypted files with .BDEV extension (plus crooks’ email address [[email protected]] attached to it. Following to this, the ransomware drops [email protected] pop-up window and info.hta file on each compromised folder.

The ransom notes explain the situation that the files have been encrypted and assure the users that they can restore the files. To get it, they are asked to write an email to the crooks behind it and wait for the further instructions. It is likely that the crooks will provide the instruction how to get the decryption tool by paying certain amount of fee. The ransom note warns the users not to rename the files or try to use any third party tool as this render the files permanently inaccessible.

Here is the full text presented on the ransom note displayed by BDEV ransomware:

!!!YOUR FILES ARE ENCRYPTED!!!

Don’t worry, you can return all your files!

If you want to restore them, write to the mail: [email protected] YOUR ID

Do not rename encrypted files.

Do not try to decrypt your data using third party software, it may cause permanent data loss.

Decryption of your files with the help of third parties may cause increased price (they add their fee to our) or you can become a victim of a scam.

In most of the cases with ransomware infection, without the involvement of the crooks behind it the files recovery is not possible. These people have the right decryption tool that is needed to crack the code used during the files encryption. The problem is that these people are not reliable- you can’t guarantee that these people will provide you the decryption tool once all their demands are met. It is usually seen that the victims receive no decryption tool even if they submit the demanded ransom fee.

In this situation, you should remove BDEV ransomware and recover the files using existing backup. The malware removal is necessary to prevent further files encryption (below the post, complete virus removal guide is provided for you). However, this process will not decrypt the already encrypted files. You can use the existing backups for the files recovery. Also, there is an option to use Shadow Copies or data recovery tools – check below the post in the data recovery section for more detailed data recovery guide.

How did BDEV ransomware infiltrate my system?

Ransomware and other malicious malware are often distributed via mal-spam, untrustworthy downloading channels, fake software updaters, Trojans and unofficial software activation tools. Mal-spam is used to send spam emails by thousands. These letters contain infectious files or links for such files in them. These files are usually malicious Microsoft Office documents, PDFs, Archives, JavaScript and so on. The infection is caused soon the provided attachment is being clicked.

Untrustworthy downloading channels such as p2p networks, free file hosing sites and third party downloaders/ installers spread malware by presenting it as legit software. Fake software updaters exploit bugs/ flaws of outdated software or directly download malware instead of providing updates. Trojans are malicious apps that cause chain of infections on already infected computer. Illegitimate activators infect systems by supposedly activating licensed programs.

How to prevent ransomware infection?

Irrelevant and suspicious emails should never be clicked – especially the provided attachments in them. Use only official websites and direct links for any software download. Additionally, all installed programs should have to be updated/ activated using the tools/ functions from official software developers only.
