How to remove NEEH Ransomware and recover files

Easy tips to delete NEEH Ransomware and decrypt files

NEEH Ransomware is a ransomware-type infection belongs to Dharma ransomware group. The malware encrypts stored files, renames them and then generates two ransom notes (pop-up window and info.txt file) to put ransom demands for alleged files decryption.

The ransomware renames the filenames with this pattern: victim’s ID, [email protected] email address, and the “.NEEH” extension. For example, a file 1.jpg would be renamed to 1.jpg.id-9ECFA84E.[[email protected]].NEEH”, and so on.

Both the ransom notes contain two email addresses, [email protected] and [email protected]. Victims are advised to use these addresses to establish contact to the crooks for the instructions on how to pay for the data recovery (a decryption tool).

One of the ransom notes (the pop-up window) states that the victims would require not to rename the filenames of the encrypted files or try to decrypt the files using third party data recovery software as this may result in permanent data loss.

In most of the cases with ransomware infection, files decryption is not possible without the involvement of the crooks behind the infection. Furthermore, despite paying – victims often do not receive the decryption software.

It is important to remove NEEH Ransomware from system to prevent it from further files encryption. The ransomware removal however will not decrypt the already affected files. Existing backups are therefore crucial or otherwise you may experience problems in files recovery.

However, there still at least two data recovery options available, in case you do not have the existing backups. Shadow Copies are one. These automatically created backups from Windows OS sometimes left untouched during the entire process of the system attack and files encryption.

Below the post, in the data recovery section, we have mentioned complete step-by-step guide how to recover files using Shadow Copies. Another data recovery option is to use data recovery tool from third party belonging.

How did NEEH Ransomware enter my system?

Users infect their systems with ransomware through emails, fake software updaters, and software cracking tools, files downloaded from unreliable sources or Trojans. Most often, ransomware are distributed through emails containing malicious links or attachments.

The infection occurs when users open those attachments and website links and execute the downloaded files. Fake software updaters usually are promoted on deceptive pages. They never update or fix any software. Cracking tools infect systems by allegedly bypassing activation keys of paid software.

Example of unreliable downloading sources that can be used to distribute ransomware are p2p networks, unofficial pages, pages offering free file hosting services, third party downloaders. Their users infect their systems by executing/ opening malicious downloads.
